EUROPA-CENTER Iberia Opens the New Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Sabadell
Sabadell, July 2, 2026 – EUROPA-CENTER has expanded its presence in the greater Barcelona area with the opening of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Barcelona-Sabadell. For the operation of the hotel, the company is partnering with Hotel Collection International (HCI) for the first time. The official opening ceremony took place on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
The new hotel highlights the economic momentum of the Vallès region and further strengthens the hospitality market in the greater Barcelona area.
The opening celebration brought together representatives from government and public administration, project partners, partner companies, industry stakeholders, as well as family members and friends. The event marked the successful completion of a construction project that began just over two years ago.
In his remarks, Carlos Madrid, Manager of EUROPA-CENTER Iberia, emphasized the project’s particular emotional significance: “About two years ago, we laid the foundation stone on this very site and planted an olive tree as a symbol of roots and growth. Today, this hotel is a reality. Step by step, we have grown and created something through this project that is truly close to our hearts.”
Madrid also recalled that planning for the development began in the midst of the COVID pandemic, under exceptionally challenging conditions for the industry. He thanked the City of Sabadell for its support throughout the entire process and expressed his appreciation to HCI for its trust. Looking ahead, he also voiced his support for continuing the partnership in the future.
In his speech, Andreas Jantzen, Member of the Management Board of EUROPA-CENTER AG and Managing Director of EUROPA-CENTER International GmbH, focused on the company’s European vision. “EUROPA-CENTER does not think in quarters. We think in generations,” he said.
The Sabadell project reflects EUROPA-CENTER’s long-term investment strategy, which is built on sustainable development, lasting value creation across generations, and trusted partnerships. As such, the hotel represents far more than a new building. It combines the company’s European perspective with regional responsibility and the successful collaboration of international and local teams.
Daniel Garcia, Director of the new hotel, also thanked EUROPA-CENTER for its trust in bringing the project to life and underscored the importance of the new location: “We are already present in destinations such as Murcia, Mallorca and Georgia — and now also in Sabadell, a city with tremendous momentum. We hope all guests will enjoy staying here and feel a real connection to this hotel.”
Garcia also highlighted the importance of the hotel team, which is made up of young, dedicated professionals.
Marta Farrés, Mayor of Sabadell, emphasized the strategic importance of the new opening for the city.
She described Sabadell as an attractive destination for investment and economic development and made clear that the local administration sees itself as an active partner for business initiatives: “We want the city administration to be seen not as an obstacle, but as a partner and a reliable source of support.”
Farrés also pointed to shorter administrative procedures for permitting and emphasized the sustainable profile of the industrial district where the new hotel is located. It is one of the few business areas in the city already supplied with reclaimed water.
With this opening, Sabadell adds a new hotel offering designed for both business travelers and guests whose stay is linked to the economic activity of the Vallès region. In doing so, the city is further strengthening its position on Catalonia’s economic map.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Barcelona-Sabadell is the first Holiday Inn Express & Suites property in Spain. The hotel is operated by Hotel Collection International (HCI), for which it is already the fifth hotel under an IHG Hotels & Resorts brand.
The new property offers 130 rooms, including 20 rooms with integrated kitchen facilities. This concept is designed especially for business travelers and long-stay guests, providing a high degree of flexibility.

The project’s integration into its surroundings was also carefully considered from the outset. Planning covered the entire site, including the hotel and two additional buildings. A bicycle path was also included, connecting the development to the existing cycling network and further promoting sustainable mobility.
