Restoration of the Thermally Stable Spherical Laboratories in Adlerhof Completed
EUROPA-CENTER Preserves Unique Historic Engineering Landmark in Berlin-Adlershof
The landmark-protected thermally stable spherical laboratories located in the courtyard of EUROPA-CENTER Adlerduo have been successfully restored in accordance with historic preservation requirements. Constructed between 1959 and 1961, the structures are among Berlin’s most distinctive engineering landmarks and stand as important witnesses to the scientific history of the Adlershof research campus.
The restoration work focused on the professional repair of the historic aluminum shell and the concrete structure. The project was based on an extensive damage assessment and carried out in close coordination with the State Office for Monument Protection, as well as an interdisciplinary team of architects, conservators, and specialized contractors.
The restoration has secured the historic fabric of the buildings for the long term and preserved a significant piece of Berlin’s scientific, architectural, and engineering heritage for future generations.
As the property owner, we have fulfilled our responsibility through this restoration and made an important contribution to safeguarding this exceptional technical monument. At the same time, the project meets the obligation to preserve the historically and architecturally significant spherical laboratories as a defining feature of the site for years to come.
We would like to thank our colleagues in technical property management, along with all planners, conservators, and construction partners whose expertise and craftsmanship contributed to the successful completion of this special project.
